3DS Thoughts On The Way; Let’s Talk Arthur

I know I said I’d have 3DS thoughts and impressions written. They’re on their way. I’ve had the system for about two weeks now and I think that’s fair enough time to get to know the system, figure out it’s pros and cons, and get impressions from others I’ve shown the system to. Hopefully I’ll have them up Saturday but we’ll see. Oh and yes, I caved and bought Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition as well as Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars, so I’ll give brief impressions of those are well.

On the other hand, I went and saw Arthur last night at midnight. My friend and I love Russel Brand so we were super excited to see it. Could we have waited til tonight or something? Sure, but where’s the fun in that?

Arthur is actually a remake of the 1981 rom-com film starring Dudley Moore and Liza Minnelli. I haven’t had a chance to see the 1981 film yet, but my friend tells me that this new Arthur, starring Russel Brand is actually a mix of the two 80’s films. They took elements from both and put them into one movie, which is okay by me. I enjoyed the movie very much and Russel Brand is hilarious as always. It’s a bit more tame, humor wise, than other movies Russel’s done. Namely, Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him to the Greek, which is why I think if you’re not a fan of Russel Brands style of humor, you may actually enjoy this movie.

That’s it for now. I’m actually going to go read a book now briefly before Smackdown! comes on in a half hour so I’ll leave it at that.

One last thing, I think I’m going to try and end each post with a random quote of wisdom. It’s actually something I’ve been meaning to do for a while but I just kept forgetting. I know, I’m awful.

Were we fully to understand the reasons for other people’s behavior, it would all make sense.

3DS Tomorrow

Nothing too big here. Just saying, the Nintendo 3DS will finally be out in North American tomorrow. It released back in January for Japan and yesterday (Friday) for Europe.

I’ll be writing all my thoughts and stuff here on the 3DS. Maybe pictures. Who knows. Currently have no plans on getting a game with it but I’ll probably change my mind when I’m in the store.

So yeah, if you care, which I’m sure you don’t, about what I have to say about the 3DS, check back sometime soon.

Also, I have already played one, but I’ve been so busy I forgot to update.

Unexpected Post!

It’s been quite some time since I last wrote about anything! I was going to wait until next week, when school is officially over, but right now seems good. What shall I write about? Let’s catch up on some recent stuff just for this blog. Something more meaningful next time.

Movies:

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1:
This movie is absolutely amazing. Just amazing! I’ve seen it three times and I could probably watch it a dozen more times and still not tire of it. Sure sure, some things were changed, as expected, but it’s really nothing major and it really does a great job of following the book and I cannot wait for part 2. The ending with Dobby… I just love Dobby’s final lines.

Ron
: Oh my God. What am I gonna do? My wife’s downstairs all alone!
Harry: Ron… you don’t have a wife.
Ron: Oh… right.

^I love it.

Games:

Donkey Kong Country Returns:
Retro studios have revived the Donkey Kong Country series after a long absence. Sure there were things like Donkey Konga, and Jungle Beat and stuff but did anyone really care for them? Not to my knowledge. DKCR is probably one of the best games of the year. While it’s a great game, with tons of replay-ability if you’re into time attacks. Keep in mind the game has an insane difficulty even for veteran gamers. You will die. And you will die a lot.

Golden Sun: Dark Dawn:
After 8 years, Camelot finally gives us a third Golden Sun game. I have not finished it but so far it’s a pretty great game. Djinni summons have some of the best graphics on DS I’ve ever seen and are just amazing to watch. Not much else can be said at this time. I would so far recommend it. Only downside is everyone talks WAAAAAAAAY too much. Even for an RPG, sometimes you just wanna be all, “Shut the fish muffin up!”

TV Shows:

Psych:
Not much to say. Psych has been pretty solid this season. Still funny as ever and I love it. What was the line from the last episode?

Shawn (to lassie)
: Sir, I’m going to ask you to calm down or I’ll be forced to taser you in the face.

Great stuff if I do say so.

Bones:
Booths new girlfriend, Hannah, is so annoying. I really just wish she would die. Considering Brennan essentially confessed her feelings for Booth tonight and he was all, “eye luv hannah (montana) sew eye canknot luv u even tho eye ‘ave always luv’d u”. HOW ANNOYING!
Other than that Bones is still a rockin’ show and awesome as always.

I’ve also been watching Boardwalk Empire on HBO which is pretty great, but does have it’s boring parts and The Walking Dead on AMC. The Walking Dead is one of the best new shows to come out in probably the last 2 years or so. It’s a shame that this first test season only had 6 Episodes and I even missed the last one. I gotta try to find it. What sucks more is season 2, which thankfully is signed for 13 Episodes, isn’t until next Fall. Boo waiting.
If you like Zombies, you should definitely watch The Walking Dead. I’m sure all six episodes of season 1 are online in some way now. Go watch them.

Thankfully this post is not as long as it could be. As I said, next post will have something better. This was just something to get back into the swing of things. Now bed for me.

‘Til next time.

LolGamers

So this is just going to be a brief blog. I recently finished the game Metroid: Other M for the Nintendo Wii. Developed by Nintendo and Team Ninja (guys behind Dead or Alive series. Yes, the one with the boobs that have their own physics engine basically). Anyways, I posted a topic here about something and a huge discussion broke out. I also posted in another topic about how the dialogue of the game wasn’t as bad as people make it out to be, which is true.

Long story short, people seem to be complaining that the dialogue in Metroid: Other M is not “realistic”. Meaning, no one, if put in the same situation, would talk like that. Now granted, this is probably right but let’s take a step back. Just one tiny step back.

Since the beginning of the Metroid universe/series, Samus Aran, a Space Bounty Hunter, has been able to obtain the ability to morph into a ball, lay bombs as a ball and be hit with them with no damage, shoot plasma and missiles out of her arm cannon (which is completely unrealistic in the first place, where does she store all of them?), and take down aliens 3x or more her size.

But now they’re complaining that a little bit of dialogue is unrealistic? Are you *censored* kidding me? They can accept all the other stuff but a little bit of unrealistic dialogue and the whole game is garbage? Gamers are never satisfied. It’s absolutely ridiculous.

Bones and Zombies

I bet you’re wondering how Bones and Zombies go together, and I shall tell you.

This Thursday Bones Season 6 starts! That’s right, it feels like it’s been yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeears since the last season of Bones and we’re finally getting season six. Watch it. Or I’ll have to find you. (note:Bones is on Fox at 8pm)

Next up, next Tuesday Dead Rising 2 will come out for the 360 and PS3. I have already preordered the Zombrex Edition and I can’t wait for the game. The first games controls were a game breaker for me. They were plain awful. As was the save system. Having played Dead Rising 2: Case Zero, the Prologue to Dead Rising 2, I think the controls and save system have been greatly improved upon. I’ll have my thoughts on the game next week or so and possibly pictures of the Zombrex Edition items. It’s $80 so it better be worth it.

That’s all, this post isn’t very good or well organized. Just decided to start writing something.

Latest Bones News

Arrrgh, just die already you stupid assassin whores!!
Huh, what? Oh!
*Pauses PSP*

Sorry bout that, these girls on this game think they can just ambush me 3 on 1. Like that’s fair, not very assassin like at all. I wonder what assassin school these broads went to.

Anyways onto more important news! E! Online recently talked to Emily Deschanel and asked her some questions regarding Booth and Brennan getting together next season. Emily had this to say, “In the 100th Episode we came very close and ya know, I think we keep moving forward. I was just talking to Hart Hanson the creator of our show about like, do Booth and Brennan get together in the next season and… I can’t tell you what we decided.”

Bah, still making us wait. Though, I’m kinda glad she can’t tell us, more of a surprise when it finally happens. And it will happen, mark my words.

A bit further in the interview they talk about Zooey Deschanel possibly making an appearance on the show again which would be pretty cool. They also make mention that fans at Comic-Con last year showed support for Booth and Brennan NOT to get together. For those Comic-Con fans who voted that way… Screw you. Go dress up as your favorite dwarf some more and stay away from Bones.

I must comment on this though as I was reading some of the comments on the news article for the interview (Found here) and some of them say they don’t want Booth and Brennan to get together now because of how David admitted to to cheating on his wife. That’s absolutely absurd! Yeah, cheating is wrong, but David maned up to it. Besides, what David does with his life does not affect who he plays as Booth. Booth and David ARE NOT THE SAME FLIPPIN PERSON! So to those of you who say you can’t distinguish Booth and David apart…. Screw you, too. Go back to daytime soaps.

Man I spent a lot of time on Bones… I meant to talk about E3 and The Speed Gamers Mario Marathon (Both starting next week), but I’ll do that Sunday night. This blog is long enough as it is now. Til next time.

Monster Hunter Tri trailer

I haven’t been keeping a close eye on Montster Hunter Tri for the Wii, but it has been something I’ll look at from time to time. Monster Hunter is an awesome series and I’m looking forward to Monster Hunter Tri. It looks like it’s going to be truly epic and is pushing the Wii to an extent not seen before. Just look at the trailer below. Let’s just hope we see a NA release date sometime soon as Monster Hunter Tri was released in Japan today:

HBP Game Impressions

Yesterday I awoke to two packages from UPS sitting on my doorstep. First package said “EA Store” on it so I ripped the box open without a knife and pulled out my shiny new copy of Half-Blood Prince for Wii. The second package was from Microsofts repair center. They sent me a shiny new Xbox 360 finally. I messed with some of the 360 and then jumped into the World of Harry Potter for Harry’s sixth year at Hogwarts.

First off I will say, the game looks fantastic, minus characters hair. Ginny’s hair is so flat and stiff you’d think someone glued cardboard to her head. But who really pays attention to that kind of detail? Me apparently. Character models are fantastic and the environments are visually pleasing too.

After watching some cutscenes the game drops you into The Burrow where Ron announces you’re Quidditch Captain this year and then Ron and Ginny force you to practice to make sure you haven’t lost your skills. To control the broom in HBP for the Wii you do not use a joystick, no, you use the Wiimote pointer. I think this works fantastically and aside from the semi set path you’re on, allows for the most accurate flying yet in a Harry Potter game. After flying Hermione and Ron show you how to use Wingardium Leviosa, yay your first spell.

So after that you see some more cutscenes, and then you’re off to Hogwarts, and this is where the real game begins. Wander on up to Hogarts with Luna, more cutscenes, you’re told to go to potions class and then they tell you if you’re lost or need help to contact Nearly Headless Nick. The footprints that helped you in OotP are gone and you’re now given… a Ghost. One thing I noticed is now all the floors and rooms and secret passages are labeled. Yes, labeled. And in one part they told me to go to Dumbledore’s office and I’m most positive Dumbledore was on floor 2, yet there is no official floor 2, floor 4 or floor 6 it seems. Were the developers hating on even numbers? So after wandering the stair cases for 10 minutes yelling “WHERE IS FLOOR 2!!??!” I called Nick, and he brought me to Dumbledore. Not on floor 2.

Because of the impending doom and Death Eaters always trying to get into the school grounds, the school has been sealed off in different parts and you have to unlock them as you go. And as you wander around you’ll find Hogwarts crests. There’s 150 of them. There are also items that “glow” and when you cast a Depulso spell at them they release Mini-Hogwarts Crests. Get enough of them and you’ll earn one full Hogwarts Crest. Obtaining these crests unlocks features in 2 player dueling and such.

Controls for spell casting work just as well in HBP as they did in OotP for Wii. Some spell motions have been changed and it’s probably for the best. Wingardium Leviosa only requires a movement from the Wiimote, not both Wiimote and Nunchuck. The controls for potion making are absolutely fun in a way too, as you have to turn the Wiimote over like you’re actually pouring stuff into the cauldron and then to make the fire raise to boil the potion you have shake the Wiimote and nunchuck. It’s a nice little mini-game that you’ll have to experience to find out how fun it can be.

The only real problem I have so far is the story is not told well in the game at all, so unless you’ve seen the movie already or read the book, you’ll be completely lost as to what the story is. Which is a bit of a disappointment but I guess they expect Potter fans to pick up the game. Which is not a bad assumption at all. That’s the assumption I would make.

I haven’t finished the game but I’m rather enjoying it so far. I think most Potter fans will enjoy it too. EA put the most effort into the Wii version and it seems to show a bit. Oh, one last quick thing that comes to mind, the game ran at a not so solid 30fps in OotP and slowed down horribly when changing to a new room as it had no loading screens. I can’t tell if this game is the same fps, but it seems to run smoother, and changing to different rooms does not slow down like in OotP. Which is awesome.

The Speed Gamers and HBP Game

The Speed Gamers are at it again! The ever so popular game marathon group has started a new marathon, this time a week long marathon of Final Fantasy (FF1 – 12, minus X-2) , raising money for ACT Today. Check them out and if you can, help support them by donating or spreading the word to everyone you know. You can reach them at www.thespeedgamers.comCome and join the fun. They have a great community on the forums too, and it’s really quite active.

For those of you who do not know who The Speed Gamers are, they are a group of dedicated people who do gaming marathons for charity. In total they’ve raised over $32,000 from past marathons and it all goes towards the charity. They also have more marathons planned for the near future, such as their Mega Man marathon coming up in August.

On a less important note (really, I should have done these two things separately), yesterday night I went on the EA store and used this discount code they sent me for my birthday in June. 25% off any game in their store. I opted to use it on the Half-Blood Prince game for Wii. This resulted in a $12.51 discount making the $50 game into only $37.49, with no tax. Also, if you buy Half-Blood Prince from the EA store there’s free shipping, so all-in-all I got a great deal. I’ll have a review of it up when I’m done with it.

I also purchased the Half-Blood Prince mobile game for my Cell phone. I’ll have impressions of that version too.
